Edward Yarbrough started a sole proprietorship at the beginning of 2017 after 25 years as an architectural historian and historic preservationist. Now an established architectural history consulting service, clients served include counties, cities and project proponents throughout California, Michigan, Guam and Hawaii. Certified as a San Francisco business, Edward Yarbrough and Yarbrough Architectural History is a Local Business Enterprise (LBE) for San Francisco projects and a Small Business Enterprise (SBE) for purposes of other contract opportunities. In addition to other experience, Edward Yarbrough worked 10 years as an Architectural History Consultant for two large environmental firms and before that for 14 years as a National Park Service (NPS) Historian and NPS historic site manager.
Edward Yarbrough is a Qualified Architectural Historian according to the Code of Federal Regulations, 36 CFR Part 61 which specifies rigorous educational and experiential qualifications developed by the Secretary of Interior. He has extensive experience working with archaeologists, biologists, environmental planners, public servants, and private property owners, their architects and attorneys. He has worked on projects throughout California and Michigan, as well as in Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, and Washington.

Edward Yarbrough
Edward Yarbrough is an architectural historian with over 25 years of experience and expertise in project management, historical and architectural evaluation, and in aiding clients in compliance with state and federal regulations and local ordinances. He has extensive experience with linear transportation projects as well as urban infill, planning updates, and energy projects. Mr. Yarbrough’s related skills include surveying, evaluation, impacts analysis, findings of effect, agreement documents, and treatment plan development. He manages teams to prepare for large surveys and inventories, perform research, analyze and evaluate resources/properties, implement treatment plans, and produce and review quality deliverables on time and in budget.
Mr. Yarbrough’s subjects of analysis include urban development, ranches and farms, railroad and light rail, bridges, industrial manufactory and mining, ports and transportation, military bases, immigrant worksites and housing, settlement patterns, and cultural landscapes. His work includes a variety of studies on urban development and vernacular architecture. He was the first historian for Keweenaw National Historical Park and manager of a National Historic Landmark District within the National Park Service (NPS) for 14 years, and has extensive NPS training and practice in public interpretation as well as in the Secretary’s Standards and Section 106 compliance under the National Historic Preservation Act. Mr. Yarbrough meets the Secretary of the Interior Standards (36 CFR 61) as an Architectural Historian. His documentation, evaluation and impacts analysis experience includes over 100 CEQA compliance projects in multiple jurisdictions and CEQA/NEPA joint documentation for Local Governments, FHWA/Caltrans, FTA, FRA, USACE, USFWS, USFS, NPS, The Presidio Trust, and private property owners.
